Description Black and white photo of 1979 Ford Mustangs nearing completion on an assembly line. The camera is positioned off of the passenger's side of the rear bumper, peering ahead down the line. Signs for a "Quality Control Point," are visible ahead. A caption typewritten on Ford North American Automotive Operations letterhead, taped to the verso, reads:

Ford Motor Company's 1979 Mustangs are on their way to dealers in preparation for October public introduction. As "lead plant" for the Mustang and the new Mercury Capri, the company's Dearborn Assembly Plant produced the 1979's for two weeks before additional production of the cars started at Ford's San Jose (Calif.) Assembly plant on August 14.
