Scope & Content | Postcard. Color postcard entitled "Cannon on Campus Martius, Detroit, Mich." The view looks northeastward to Woodward Avenue and Campus Martius from the park area in front of the Old City Hall. A cannon, salvaged from Oliver H. Perry's victory in the Battle of Lake Erie, is shown in the lower left corner of the image. Printed text on the verso shows "Cannon on Campus Martius, Detroit, Mich. This cannon is in front of the City Hall and was captured in Perry's Victory over the English on Lake Erie in 1813." (This cannon is now located in front of the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle.) The estimated date of the postcard is based upon the image depicted and is not based upon when the postcard was printed. |
