Scope & Content Mounted color postcard, from the Detroit Publishing Company, depicting the flag of Detroit, with the city seal emblazoned on a quartered background. The background features three golden lions, five golden fleurs-de-lis, stars, and stripes. The seal has the text "Speramus Meliora; Resurget Cineribus" and two female figures with a burning city and new city behind them.

David Emil Heineman (1865-1935) designed the flag adopted by the Common Council of Detroit as the official flag of the city on April 20, 1948.
