Description |
Black and white print containing two black and white photos of a 1978 Ford Motor Company Mustang II body being cleaned and primed during the assembly process at the company's Dearborn Assembly Plant. In the top image the body is being sprayed with zinc-phosphate from several nozzles. In the bottom image the body is being dipped into a vat of cathodic primer paint. A caption typewritten on Ford North American Automotive Operations letterhead, taped to the verso, reads: Immediate Release A 1978 Mustang II gets a rust-fighting shower and bath with the new cathodic Electrocoat primer system at Ford Motor Company's Dearborn (Mich.) Assembly Plant. First, the car body goes through a zinc-phosphate cleaning spray (top photo). Then, the entire body is dipped in a large, electrically charged vat of special primer paint. The car body receives an opposite charge from attached electrodes, and the corrosion-resistant paint adheres instantly to even hidden crevices of the body. Ford Motor Company is the leader among North American auto-makers in the use of cathodic primer paint. 3/31/78 |
